Madrid decided to send forces of
the Spanish army for the logistic (currently) support of the police
and the National Guard in Barcelona, according to press reports.
According to the digital edition
of El Confidencial, on Tuesday afternoon, just minutes after the
king's pronouncement through which he condemned the referendum in
Catalonia, units of the Spanish army were instructed to move to
Barcelona with at least 20 trucks.
The units include the 41st Team of
Logistics Support, whose members were informed a week ago to be ready
for immediate departure. This group has so far has been operating in
war zones such as Afghanistan, Lebanon, Iraq, and formerly Kosovo and
Bosnia.
The mission of logistical support
shows that Madrid's security forces are not going to move away from
the region, as requested by Catalan President Carles Puigdemont, who
has described them as an "occupying army."
