Cold War 2.0: Russia to develop counter measures to US missile defense system in Europe

Chief designer of the Russian "Radio-Electronic Technology Concern" Yuri Majevski said that the enterprise is working on measures which would counter the deployment of the US anti-missile defense system in Europe. The need for a corresponding response to the deployment of the US missile defense system near Russian borders was previously announced by former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev. Majevski said that the development of the response measures is a forced move which resulted from the US’ excessive doctrine of a "prompt global strike”. He also added that his enterprise is ready to take necessary steps to develop high-performance defense tools and implement them. It was reported earlier that the US Navy tested its anti-missile defense system in Europe and that this move could be considered a signal of the beginning of a new arms race. The ship-based missile defenses are designed to complement interception stations to be built in Ro

More than 3,000 killed in Iraq during October

During October, Antiwar.com tallied 3,071 killed and 1,160 wounded. These figures are lower than those counted last month. At least 3,974 were killed in September, and another 1,613 were wounded. Scanning the media reports, Antiwar found that 528 civilians were reported killed, and another 602 were wounded. Security forces lost 168 members, while another 229 were wounded. The greatest number of reported casualties was among the militant groups. At least 2,375 were reported killed. Another 329 were wounded. These casualty numbers should be considered estimates. The true figures may never be known. There is evidence that the Iraqi government is undercounting deaths among their security forces and possibly exaggerating militants deaths. At least 171 were killed in the latest violence. Only one person was reported as wounded. In Mosul, militants executed a dozen teenagers who were attempting to flee their control. An old case pertaining to leaked CIA documents from 2006 has spark speculation as to whether Greece’s great statesman was a Nazi collaborator An unusual leaked CIA document that has been around since 2006 has been doing the rounds on the Internet in recent hours, trending on Twitter as #Karamanlis_gate. The document in question dates back to September 16, 1962, states that two former conservative prime ministers of Greece – Constantine Karamanlis and Kostantinos Tsaldaris – had collaborated with the Nazis during the Jewish Holocaust and specifically in the drive to rid Thessaloniki from its large sephardic community. The announcement was made during the Adolf Eichmann trial. The document states that during the trial of Eichm
